Frequently Asked Questions

How many systems has Sunjuice Installed?
Sunjuice has installed in excess of 10,000 systems in the Wide Bay Area. Sunjuice systems produce more than 10 megawatts of electricity every day.
Where does Sunjuice install?
Geographically, Sunjuice installs almost anywhere within 50km of Hervey Bay at no additional travel charge. We also install on any roof type without any additional fee either.

Sunjuice has completed special projects as far away as Moree and Sydney in NSW and Melbourne and Phillip Island in Victoria and Adelaide in South Australia, so please check with us first if your installation can be done wherever you might be.

Systems have been installed on residential steel and tile roofs, commercial businesses, farm sheds and on free-standing frames in back yards.

Basically wherever you are and whatever space you have we can install a system tailored to you.

What size systems are offered?
Any size system that you desire, however some systems are better value than others.

For business customers requiring larger systems we have installed solar systems up to 300kW in size.

In Queensland the maximum system size (Feed in Tariff) for residential customers is 5kW per phase.

Who does the electrical work?
Electrical contractors holding unrestricted electrical contracting licenses for work in, but not limited to, Queensland.

How do I get the feed-in-tariff?
Once Ergon has installed your new meter, you will be credited per the current FIT rate for all exported electricity.

What Solar Panels do we use?
Sunjuice Solar uses the best Tier 1 solar panels. These come with a 12 or 15 year material and 25 year Manufacturers guarantee. We can provide any brand, make or model of solar panel you require. Please ask us if you have a specific brand in mind.

We can supply any panel brand that you might wish should you have a preference, however anything other than what Sunjuice is currently using at the time may come at a higher price.

Some solar panel information to be aware of:

A very common misconception in the marketplace, fuelled by unscrupulous operators who perpetuate this misconception because they can charge a higher price, is that German manufactured panels are more efficient and reliable than Chinese manufactured alternatives, and you should choose these, but at a considerably higher price.

More than 90% of the panels manufactured worldwide are made in China, and so when an installation company claim they are supplying you with German manufactured panels check this first and independently as it most likely an inaccurate claim.

Most panels are designed in Germany and manufactured in China don’t let anyone twist this fact so they can charge you more.

There are no moving parts and when a panel is assembled it remains a static piece of equipment for its lifespan.

So our advice is don’t get sidetracked by panels, they are secure and come with a 12 year and 25 year guarantee so even if you are the lucky lottery winner and get a dud panel (the odds are about the same) it will be covered in your lifetime by a replacement guarantee regardless of where it was purported to be manufactured.

What is the difference between Solar Panel brands?
In our experience, very little. All panels have to pass the very strict Australian Clean Energy Council regulations standards test parametres. A 275W panel is a 275W panel and its in operational performance is governed by the laws of physics not the brand or where it’s made.

In Hervey Bay, with its unique climatic conditions, different panels function differently due to the heat and humidity. Ask us what the best performing panel is when buying, although usually this is the panel we’ll be using.

What inverters do we use?
Sunjuice Solar uses only inverters which come with 10 year warranties.

What warranties are offered?
All components supplied by Sunjuice, being of the highest quality are covered by multi layer, long warranties.

The solar panels have a 12 or 15 year fault warranty and a 25 year performance warranty. If they fail within 12 years, they will be replaced. If within 12 or 15 years of installation their output is less than 88% of when they were new, they will be replaced. If within 25 years of installation their output is less than 75% of when they were new, they will be replaced.

Most inverters are covered by a 5 year fault warranty, Sunjuice offers 10 year parts & labour warranty on all their inverters installed from January 20

Workmanship is guaranteed by Sunjuice Solar for 5 years from the date of system commissioning.

How much will I save?
This is the most common question which has no definite answer except for the statement that what you save depends on the system size and when you consume electricity.

The larger the system, the more electricity you will produce.

The less of the solar generated electricity you consume, the more you will export and the greater will be your financial reward.

Is there any risk that the Solar Credits Scheme will reduce?
Absolutely YES! The Solar Credits Scheme legislation has seen the number of STC’s reduced considerably over the past year and reviews are ongoing so further changes should be expected.

How do the feed-in-tariffs work?
Actually, quite simply.

After your solar energy system is commissioned by our electrician, Ergon will install a new “smart meter” in your meter box to replace your current standard and off peak electricity meters. While the new meter will register electricity you draw from the grid, it will also register another number – the amount of electricity which your solar energy system sends (exports) to the grid.

Whenever the amount of electricity being consumed in your home is less than what is being produced on your roof, that excess electricity will pass through the meter to the grid and be registered as export electricity.

You will be paid a fee for that electricity (used to be 44c per kWh but is now it's much lower) which will be credited to your electricity account on a quarterly basis under legislation for 44c rebate customers until June 30 2028.

You are currently charged considerably more for energy you buy from your energy retailer than they will pay you for energy you generate for them.

Are the Feed-in-Tariffs likely to be changed or eliminated?
Absolutely – already we have seen FIT rates drop from 44c to 6.348c per Kwh over the last 9 years and then rise slightly again – all whilst watching energy bills increase by approximately 60% over the same period - and there is nothing to suggest that these will not be removed altogether shortly or be subject to further changes.

In our view, this is likely to occur sooner rather than later.

Queensland is now the only State in Australia with a formal FiT still in operation. Every other State has operated a FiT for a time which was subsequently reduced or eliminated. Ominously for the Queensland FiT, repealing or reducing the FiT occurred soon after a State election resulted in a change of government.

Fortunately for owners of systems already installed, existing FiT arrangements (in Queensland’s case until 2028) have been left in place. Only new customers might be prevented from joining the program after a certain date.

Do you have any final advice for someone thinking about installing Solar?
Yes. The schemes and programs which make solar affordable are always being reduced. Combined with historically low component costs (solar panels, inverters etc), it is highly unlikely that the “out-of-pocket” cost of installing a solar energy system will ever be as low as it currently is.

If you are thinking about it, the window on the lowest price/highest gain is closing and the welding torch is in the room to seal that window forever.

If you are planning to install solar do it now before all the rebates disappear completely.
